A lag is the delay from the time a command is issued to the time it is performed across a network. Previous generations of wireless networking equipment had high lag times as well as slow access speeds. This made traditional wired networks the only solution for hardcore gamers until recently. The new generation of wireless gaming routers include low lag times and offer fast and reliable access. These routers are even being used in conjunction with the latest consoles, which support networking such as Microsofts Xbox.
