A useful home networking tip is to have a notebook and a pen handy and write down what is being done at each stage. For example before purchasing products it is useful to write down the requirements and then draw a simple diagram of the network. When setting up the network, especially when security is concerned it is a good idea to write down long usernames and passwords, MAC addresses, network SSID, Internet connection information and other useful bits of information rather than trying to remember everything.
