Home Network: Building a home wireless network

Building a home wireless network

Building a home wireless network requires that a few preparations are made. Other than the cost and budget factors, one must think about the size of the network. This is basically the number of users that will connect to the network along with other resources such as shared printers. Each of these users will require a method of connecting to the network. Some newer laptops have built in wireless chips. Other computer users will have to install wireless access cards or wireless adaptors for network access. For home wireless networking the size is not normally big and setup is easy. It is also important to consider where the router will live. Wireless routers must be placed such that most users can get an ideal bandwidth and that interference is minimised. Interference can come from a variety of sources such as metal objects and other signals in the air. If there is an Internet connection that is going to be shared then it is probably best to locate the router close to the cable modem or phone line. It also makes sense to purchase a router which has a built in modem for Internet access. Once these prerequisites are determined then it is a good idea to write down the hardware requirements and then proceed with the purchase.
